I’ve wanted to be an architect for as long as I can remember. A conversation with my dad helped me connect my love of drawing with my skills in math and science, sparking a passion for designing buildings. That passion deepened at the University of Virginia where I explored urban design, but I found myself more drawn to the human scale—specifically, residential architecture.
After college, I joined Barnes Vanze Architects in Georgetown, where I gained invaluable experience creating construction drawings and led my first small project. Seeking greater creative freedom and responsibility, I reached out to Robert M. Gurney, FAIA, after seeing one of his designs in a magazine. I was fortunate to join his firm and, while working in Old Town Alexandria, earned my Master of Architecture from Virginia Tech. My thesis focused on defining the essential qualities of a house, specifically what it means to dwell between earth and sky.
For over 20 years, I was Project Architect on many award-winning homes in the Washington, D.C. area, including the Lyon Park House in Arlington, the Renovation 1662 rowhouse in Georgetown, the East Lake Beach House in Rehoboth Beach, and most recently the PTR House in Potomac, Maryland. By working on these projects from start to finish, I developed strong relationships with clients, consultants, and builders, marked by consistent communication and attention to detail.
I strive to design homes that are environmentally responsible, site-sensitive, and enduring. Every project begins with the client, and I guide the process through design, documentation, and construction, ensuring every detail is thoughtfully executed. As a mother of three, I know that beautiful spaces come alive when they function well. I look forward to each new project as a unique and creative journey.
